I am finalising this report and this month’s Log from western Queensland as we complete a 12-day road trip from Cairns – keeping my fingers crossed that internet connections remain intact!
Racing is winding down for the 2025-26 season, with three Series decided in May. Congratulations to the crews on Griffin (Sprint Series and All-Rounder Series) and BOB (Transit Series) on their wins – more in Race Reports below. The Winter Series starts on the first Saturday after the King’s Birthday long weekend.
We had a good turnout for our AGM, both in the clubhouse and online. The main business of the meeting was election of the club’s Board for 2026-27. Thank you once again for the honour of serving as Commodore, and congratulations to our returning Board members and new Director Bert Morales. I look forward to working with the new Board over the next 12 months. Thank you also to the members who have volunteered for various positions essential to the smooth running of the club – see details in NEWS below.
We had a good rollup for our Skippers Meeting following the last Transit race of the season – thanks again to the Galley committee, particularly Jane Kembrey, Greg Bridges, Russell Bourne and Bert Morales for putting on the burger feast, which was much appreciated by all. There was good discussion during the meeting, which will be useful in guiding the Race Committee and Cruising Committee in developing plans for 2026-27. A pdf of the presentation (including the analysis of handicapping) will be posted on the website shortly.
Please note there will be no LOG at the end of June, as the editor and contributors take a well-earned break.

Following on from the Rear Commodore’s recent work on the Tender, I am pleased to be able to add that the Battery Compartment Cover has been refurbished and re-installed. The work carried out should ensure that it will last for quite some time to come. I’m also pleased to report that within a few days the Nav lights will be replaced. It is quite incredible that sealed units such as these can allow the ingress of water as happened with these.
The Bar shelving for the glasses required a few repairs and these have now been completed and the glasses rehung.
The location of the PA amplifier in the confined space beneath the Bar has always been of a concern due to both its inconvenience and the amount of heat generated while in operation. To solve both these problems the unit was removed and transferred to the rack cabinet located in the Office – this position allows for easy access and assisted cooling at the same time. Additionally, both the FM microphone and the Bluetooth receivers have been placed in a purpose-built tray located beneath the rack on top of the small filing cabinet.
