Sailing Conditions & Instructions

Radio Frequencies

The race committee will monitor the following frequencies on race day.

Distress & Calling Channel

VHF Channel 16
27 MHz Channel 88

Once communication is established on the above frequencies, traffic will move to the following frequencies:

VHF Channel 77
27 MHz Channel 94

Note: A licence is required to operate VHF radio.

Racing

B.B.Y.C. members have many options throughout the year to enjoy the thrill of yacht racing.

Saturday Racing

Saturday Afternoon Racing on Botany Bay is full competition racing.

Summer and Winter series are held over an Olympic triangle course under Division 2 with a shortened course for Division 1 (Non-spinnaker).

Sprint Series - Windward / Leeward courses with 2 races per afternoon.

Fixed Mark Series - variable courses utilising marks adjacent to Navigation Marks.

Division 2 Summer races start at 1330 with Division 1 at 1335.

Division 2 Winter races start at 1300.

Twilight Series

Twilight races are held during Daylight Savings on Kogarah Bay and Georges River over various courses and they are very popular. Although regarded as 'Social Racing' they can become very competitive. All starts and finishes are in front of the Club providing ample opportunity for comment from the 'armchair' sailors ashore as well as a spectacular view.

Racing starts at 1800 (6pm) October and March, then 1830 (6.30pm) for November to late February.

Winter Series

Winter Series are composed of 10 races that run on Saturdays from May to July.

- Single & Double Handed Race


Races may be postponed due weather. Notice of cancellation will be displayed in the club on race day and on our Facebook page, whenever possible.
